About

Lakeyas is a field guide to the world's lakes, built entirely on open scientific data.

For each lake you will find the average surface water temperature month by month and how long it stays frozen (satellite measurements, 2013–2021), the long-term climate on the shore (1991–2020) and what each month was like from 2020 to 2025, its size, depth and volume, and what is around the shoreline.

Everything is an average or a count from a public dataset — never a forecast, and never an opinion. Sources and licences are listed on the data sources page.
