Lake Nemrut is a crater lake in Turkey. It covers 11.9 km². On average it is 52 m deep. Its surface lies 2,249 m above sea level.

The water

How warm is Lake Nemrut?

The water is warmest in August, around 20 °C at the surface, and coldest in February, around 0 °C. The surface averages 20 °C or more in August: comfortable for most swimmers.

It does not normally freeze in winter.

On the shore, afternoons reach 30 °C on average in August and -2 °C in January. The driest month is August (4 mm of rain), the wettest April (81 mm).
