Lake Nicaragua is a lake in Nicaragua. It covers 7,833 km². On average it is 13 m deep, and 60 m at its deepest point. Its surface lies 31 m above sea level.

The water

How warm is Lake Nicaragua?

The water is warmest in September, around 28 °C at the surface, and coldest in January, around 25 °C. The surface averages 20 °C or more from January to December: comfortable for most swimmers.

It does not normally freeze in winter.

On the shore, afternoons reach 34 °C on average in April and 28 °C in October. The driest month is February (8 mm of rain), the wettest October (300 mm).
