Öskjuvatn is a crater lake in Iceland. It covers 11.4 km². On average it is 59 m deep, and 220 m at its deepest point. Its surface lies 1,053 m above sea level.

The water is warmest in September, around 3 °C at the surface, and coldest in January, around 0 °C. Even at its warmest, the surface stays below 17 °C on average: this is cold water.

The lake usually freezes over for about 205 days a year, from around 20 November to 12 June.

On the shore, afternoons reach 4 °C on average in July and -4 °C in January. The driest month is June (52 mm of rain), the wettest November (87 mm).
